Boro chief Steve Gibson confirms our Neil Warnock exclusive

Neil Warnock will remain as Middlesbrough manager for next season – as we exclusively revealed on Tuesday morning.

Warnock took over in June with the club in danger of relegation from the Sky Bet Championship. But the 71-year-old won four of his eight games in charge to keep the club in the division.

“Neil Warnock is to stay on as Boro manager and will lead the club in the 2020/21 season,” Boro announced on their official website.

Warnock held talks with chairman Steve Gibson after the club’s Championship status was secured.

“Neil will be with us next season and he’s busy already,” Gibson told BBC Radio Tees Sport.

“He said he was going to take a week off down in Cornwall and switch his phone off. I wish he had because he’s on the phone to me every 10 minutes!”

Warnock’s lieutenants Kevin Blackwell and Ronnie Jepson will also form part of the new management team at the Riverside next season.

TEAMtalk also understands Warnock has made his plans clear to Gibson, including wanting control over the club’s transfers.

Boro will be working on a tight budget and will need their money to go a long way.

Warnock’s backroom staff have been working on targets for a number of weeks to try and give them an advantage in bringing in the names they want.

Fox decided against signing a new contract at Sheffield Wednesday, who offered him a long-term deal after an excellent campaign.

Now the former Charlton man has a host of clubs chasing his signature.

However, we understand that Stoke are in pole position to take Fox to the Bet365 Stadium. Read more…
