Getting hurt in sports is like death and taxes. It is guaranteed to happen but you can avoid it by being smart with your body. This layoff is the longest hiatus that most NBA players have had from basketball their whole lives. Bam Adebayo is looking for a $100 million extension during the offseason and going to Orlando is a big risk of injury.
According to NBA.com, Adebayo said:
“We want to play and give our teams the best chance of winning a championship. But at the end of the day we’re also thinking about our families and our lives and how they could change if we get hurt.”
A big pay day is a great reason to sit the rest of the season. You have to take care of yourself first because professional sports is a business. The Miami Heat have a real chance to make it to the Finals if they are able to excel so it will be interesting to see if Adebayo plays.
