British junior Arthur Fery: Always loved Roger Federer; Nick Kyrgios is my favourite

18 year old Arthur Fery, a rising British tennis player, says that Swiss legend Roger Federer and Nick Kyrgios are his favourite players, and that he hopes to be able to play doubles with the Australian tennis star one day.

Fery is currently ranked No. 1195 (best ranking is No. 1174) in the ATP rankings and is one of the eight players being supported by the LTA Men’s & Women’s Programme. He is also ranked a career-best No. 12 on the ITF junior rankings and has won 5 ITF junior titles in his career – the biggest one coming at the J1 Kazan event in Russia in February this year.

According to the LTA website, Fery says, “I’ve always loved Federer, how he plays, his game – he’s really nice to watch. Nick Kyrgios is my favourite player and I’d love to share the court with him (playing doubles).

I just like how he plays and the good elements of how he acts on court”. The 18 year old right-hander, whose preferred surface is grass, adds that he is also inspired by basketball legend Michael Jordan after watching the recent Jordan Netflix documentary ‘The Last Dance’.

“It was definitely an eye-opener for me. I didn’t really grow up in Michael Jordan’s era but just to see how he acts and how he was, was just incredible”. Fery, whose mother Olivia also competed professionally on the women’s tour, has some pretty high goals set for himself – which include playing all the Grand Slams and breaking into the Top 50 of the world rankings.

“Playing at Wimbledon and Grand Slams especially would be a dream for me, having been to visit so many times. Hopefully I can start to play the pros soon and eventually I’d like to break into the top 50 – that would feel like a massive milestone for me”.

Arthur Fery is certainly moving in the right direction for now. On the professional circuit, he picked up 18 ATP ranking points by reaching the quarter-finals of the M25 event in Shrewsbury, Great Britain at the end of last year – which is his best performance on the professional circuit as of now.
